Zone 1 – Creating a zone for the entire second floor will help compensate for commonly found airflow issues and minimize the comfort differences often found between levels in multi-story homes.

Zone 2 – Heavier use on the main level during more hours of the day often means creating a second zone for this entire floor.

Zone 3 – Basements typically receive less sunlight and are naturally insulated by the ground, which means different comfort requirements from upper levels. A basement or walk-out lower level will often make a sensible third zone option.
